Navigating the Business World as a young Female Entrepreneur

5–4–3–2–1- go for it. That’s exactly what entrepreneurs do, they take a risk and go all in 100%. After gaining experience working at International law firms, I started my own business in the tiny beautiful Caribbean Island of Nevis. Nevis is one of the most lush tropical islands in the Caribbean with an inactive volcano at the centre and golden sanded beaches. Nevis is not very well known but has some of the best corporate laws for business and has one of the longest most reputable Citizenship by Investment Programs in the world. The most popular corporate entities are Nevis LLCs and Nevis IBCs that are known to be used for investment holding purposes, wealth management and asset protection purposes. Our company, JHMarlin, specializes in Citizenship by Investment and corporate commercial law. We have helped a number of clients live globally and freely by obtaining a second passport.

Founding a start-up company means balancing everything from marketing, business development, accounting, client service while at the same time expanding your team while cultivating a positive and motivating company culture. Here are my 5 tips for navigating the world of business:

  1. Bring your A Game — Showing up and bringing your best to the table is important for your team and for your clients. As a leader, approaching every day with a focused positive mindset is necessary to lead your team in the right direction and render the best service for clients. Don’t aim for anything less than your very best!
  2. Believe in Yourself — Entrepreneurs always have doubts at some point especially when they are starting out. You have to believe in your goals, believe in your self and believe that there is always a solution to any problem that arises. At our company we believe that sticking to our core values of dedication & industriousness, honesty & integrity, respect & teamwork and innovation will create a company culture that is dedicated to excellence in all facets of our business and will result in long term success.
  3. Don’t conform — Be true to yourself but offer something different or above and beyond that of your competitors. For example, at JH Marlin we pride ourselves on being highly responsive and take a personalized approach to client matters. We can help clients obtain a second passport and even deliver a second passport to the client’s door step setting us apart from others in the industry!
  4. Balance — Despite the long hours in running a business, it is important to take time to rest and be ready to continue tackling challenges as they arise. Determining what the proper balance is for each person is different and balance can be turning your phone off for designated periods of time, spending time with family & friends, exercising, reading a novel, sleeping etc. Finding the correct balance mix will help maximize productivity.
  5. Build a Support Network — Surround yourself with a positive supporting environment of people that you can ask questions and get feedback from on a regular basis. Offering to help others when you can and reaching out to people in your industry to either collaborate on matters or offer your insights will help to start to build a foundation for future support.

While there have been highs and lows to being an entrepreneur, it is very rewarding and satisfying especially when the results obtained for clients are positive. JHMarlin looks forward to continuing to expand our team and serve our clients both locally and internationally.
